Guest piece from Team PoleKat-Fishing on why they love their Patriot Power Source batteries.
Over the past few years, I’ve heard more and more about professionals in the bass fishing industry using lithium batteries to power their electronics, lights, pumps, and even their trolling motors.
Not too long ago, I went out fishing and noticed that my batteries were getting weak once again, so after only a few hours, I decided it was time to do some research and make the switch.
I bought my lithium batteries from Patriot Power Source, and I’m so glad I did. Let me tell you my story and why you should consider buying your next batteries from this company and make the switch to lithium for your boat.
My Experience with AGM Batteries
I’ve always used AGM batteries in my fishing boat. Still, over the past few years, I would hear that lithium batteries eliminated the chance of running out of power on long tournament days in professional bass fishing. I was interested and wanted to look into all the benefits that lithium offered.
At the time, I was running five AGM batteries in the back of my SeaArk Procat. It seemed like every two years I would need to replace at least one of them. Plus, I had to keep an eye on the time to make sure I wouldn’t run out of battery while I was out on the lake. I had to rely on the generator a lot.
Not to mention that each one of these batteries weighed 70 pounds! I had a lot of weight in the stern of my boat, so I contemplated moving the batteries to the center instead. If I wanted to do that, I would need to remove and replace much of the wiring and chargers. So, I figured it was a good time to make the switch to lithium.
My Experience with Lithium Batteries
Before I bought lithium batteries, I called a few fellow fishermen and asked them their thoughts and what they enjoyed about lithium batteries. I never received a bad report, and they all told me to do it. I was sold.
I purchased three 12V 100Ah lithium batteries from Patriot Power Source for my trolling motor and one more to power my house, which runs lights, two graphs, four pumps, headlights, and everything else.
Installation was simple. I just replaced the AGM batteries with lithium. I also installed a Noko 4 bank marine lithium battery charger and a couple of Patriot Power Source digital battery screens. The lithium battery charger offers higher performance, and the battery screens let me know how much battery I have left at all times.
First off, these lithium batteries only weigh 22 pounds each compared to the 70 pound AGMs. My twenty-foot SeaArk loves the weight loss! I didn’t even need to move them out of the stern to reduce that weight because just switching to lithium was enough.
I’ve been running this setup for a few months now, and I’m thrilled with it. I usually fish ten to twelve hours a day, sometimes multiple days, and I haven’t had it die yet.
In fact, I made a trip to the Mississippi River a few weeks ago and ran the batteries extremely hard from sunup to sundown, and I didn’t even need to start the generator. I plugged them back into the house power every night, and they charged quickly. They were ready to go the following day bright and early so I could get back on the water.
My Experience with Patriot Power Source
When I started looking into lithium batteries, I searched all over the internet and found out that there are a lot of different companies selling them. I started getting prices and spoke to a few sales associates and company owners.
Everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful, but I really wanted to go with a company that I felt I could trust if I had a problem. I wanted to be able to pick up my phone to call if I had an issue and actually have someone answer. Or at least get a return call quickly.
Then I found Patriot Power Source. When I called, Trey picked up and answered every single question I had for him. He told me that he had already rigged a couple of boats with similar setups to mine and that his customers were completely satisfied.
Patriot Power Source has very competitive prices, and the customer service is amazing. They also offer an eight-year warranty! On top of that, I liked that the company is based in a town that’s less than an hour away from my house.
When I bought my batteries, I drove over to Patriot Power Source. Trey sold me the batteries and sealed the deal with a handshake. He even helped me get everything installed and set up.
I know there are plenty of other fishermen out there that are on the fence about making the switch to lithium batteries, but it’s so worth it.
You’ll get these amazing benefits:
- Huge weight loss
- Longer days on the water
- Worry-free time on the water
- Maintenance free
- Much faster trolling motor
- 8-year warranty
- Friendly customer service

When you actually decide to get serious and convert to lithium batteries, I’d recommend that you give Trey at Patriot Power Source a call.
